The WKAA league hosted a tournament on campus of the West Kentucky Career & Technical College in Paducah, KY on Friday, November 17th.  The schools that competed are listed below, with the winning schools noted.

Edmonson County (MG) – 12/9/2017

ECMS HOLIDAY CLASSIC ACADEMIC TOURNAMENT

 

Where:           Edmonson County Middle School

When:             December 9, 2017—Registration is from 7:00 to 8:00 AM CST

Cost:                $75.00 per team or $100.00 for teams competing in FPS. 

 

Written Assessment — Each participating team may enter 3 students in each of the following written assessment areas: arts and humanities, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

 

Quick Recall Procedures — Quick recall matches will begin at 10:30 AM.  Three preliminary rounds will be played to establish rankings for the championship round. The teams with the better preliminary records will meet teams with poorer records. All teams are guaranteed four rounds of quick recall.  Match rules will follow Governor’s Cup guidelines.

 

FPS Procedures — Teams competing in FPS must register before the deadline.  Each school is limited to one FPS team to allow for processing and scoring of booklets.  Any school with students entering FPS must furnish a scorer.  On Monday December 4, 2017, the FPS future scene will be e-mailed to all teams competing.  Each school will hold a 2 hour FPS session on Monday or Tuesday.  Then each school will scan and email or fax booklets to ECMS by 11:00 a.m. CST Wednesday, December 6, 2017.  Our FPS coordinator will then collect the booklets, prepare them for scoring, and send booklets to schools to be scored.  Each school will be responsible for scoring booklets other than their own.  Scoresheets will then be faxed or scanned and emailed to ECMS where the scores will be recorded in ASAP.  We would like to have the scores by 8:00 p.m. CST Friday, December 8, 2017, but will accept them until 9:00 a.m. CST on December 10, 2017.

 

English Composition Procedures — We will offer English composition.  Any school with students entering English composition must furnish a reader/grader.  On Monday December 4, 2017, the composition prompt will be e-mailed to all teams competing.  Each school will hold a 90 minute session on Monday or Tuesday.  Then each school will scan and email or fax the composition sheets to ECMS by 11:00 a.m. CST Wednesday, December 6, 2017.  Our composition coordinator will then collect the composition sheets, prepare them for scoring, and send compositions to schools to be scored.  Each school will be responsible for scoring composition pieces other than their own.  Scoresheets will then be faxed or scanned and emailed to ECMS where the scores will be recorded in ASAP.  We would like to have the scores by 8:00 p.m. CST Friday, December 8, 2017, but will accept them until 9:00 a.m. CST on December 10, 2017.

 

All schools participating must provide at least one moderator.  We encourage all schools to bring a qualified quick recall judge. High school students may be used in any official capacity. Also, additional persons to act as scorers and spotters would be greatly appreciated. Each school should provide a minimum of one proctor for each assessment block. Also, additional buzzer systems are needed.

Dunbar Bulldog MG & JV Tournament 11/4/2017

The Dunbar Academic Team will be hosting a Quizbowl and FPS tournament for middle school teams (grades 6-8) as well as JV high school teams (grades 9-10) on November 4, 2017. Registration will begin at 8:15 AM, the team meeting for the tournament will begin at 8:40, and tournament play will begin at 9:00. David Ma will be acting as tournament director.

The cost for the tournament is $70 per Quizbowl team and $40 per FPS team. You can pay on the day of the tournament or send it in beforehand to: PL Dunbar High School, 1600 Man O’ War Blvd, Lexington, KY 40513. Please make all checks payable to Paul Laurence Dunbar Attn: Academic Team.

Lunch will be available at Dunbar for just $5 per person. This includes two slices of pizza, a cookie, and a drink.

We will be using NAQT 171A for JV and NAQT MS-24 throughout the day, worksheets will be house-written, and the FPS future scene will be house produced and scored.  Questions will be given at the end of the day, along with FPS Future Scene and feedback. 

All Quizbowl teams will play five rounds round- robin style in the morning. Based off their morning performance, all teams will be re-bracketed and matched with teams with similar records.

Trinity HS – Tourney for Middle Grades 11/4/2017

  • Saturday, November 4th, 9am until about noon.  Playoffs 1-3pm.
  • Trinity High School, 4011 Shelbyville Rd., Louisville, KY, 40207
  • $45 per team – max of 10 players per team (includes a copy of all questions, a T shirt for each player, and a certificate)
  • $25 for an additional team from same school ($70 total)
  • Modified Governor’s Cup format.  One point for toss-ups and bonuses.  Bounce-back bonuses used.  Halves are 12 minutes or 40 questions, whichever comes first.  3 minute halftime/inquiry period.
