Edmonson Wildcat Challenge (MG) – 11/12/2016

4th Annual Wildcat Challenge

 Where: Edmonson County High School, 220 Wildcat Way, Brownsville, KY 42210

When: November 12, 2016—Registration is from 7:00 to 8:00 AM CST

Cost: $75.00 per team (Minimum fee of $50 per team)

Our tournament is a qualifier for the 2017 MIDDLE SCHOOL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT in DALLAS, TX May 13, 2017. The TOP 15% of our field will be invited to the MSNCT. Last year we were also a qualifier for the Questions Unlimited National Academic Championship. We will have pool play in the morning; the results will be used for seeding in the playoff rounds. The exact format will depend on the number of teams that register, but all teams will be guaranteed five games. We will be using an NAQT Middle School series (MS-19) set of questions. All participating teams will get a complete copy of the set of questions used for the tournament. Registration will begin at 7:00 AM CST with matches beginning at 8:30 AM CST. 2016 ECMS Holiday Classic Academic Tournament

  • When:  December 10, 2016—Registration is from 7:00 to 8:00 AM CST
  • Cost:      $75.00 per team or $100.00 for teams competing in FPS.
  • Format: KAAC format including written assessment, quick recall, and FPS.

At Madisonville North Hopkins High School

Sponsored by: Madisonville Rotary Club, Hancock Bank, and Madisonville North Hopkins High School.

We will be using NAQT questions. Set number is IS-162

Entries will be limited to the first 36 teams. Entry fee is $60 for the first team and $50 for each additional team.

Entry deadline is Friday January 6, 2017

All teams will be guaranteed a minimum of 10 rounds with 20 tossups and 20 bonuses available per round.

Each team will be given 5 T-shirts, we asked that you give us a list of sizes with your entries.

Lunch items will be available for purchase during the lunch break.  We ask that all teams stay on campus during lunch break to help maintain a smooth flow for the competition.

We would greatly appreciate it if all teams would bring a buzzer system with them since we are planning to have 18 rooms in use for all rounds.


8:30 – Coaches Meeting

9:00 – 1st Round begins.  The remaining Preliminary Rounds will follow as quickly as possible.

Lunch Break will follow the Preliminary Rounds

The top 32 from the morning rounds, based on 1) record and 2) total points, will compete for the Championship.  All remaining teams will be placed in an afternoon round robin.  We will follow NAQT rules with the exception of not penalizing for early wrong answers (negs).  We will still reward for powers.

Dunbar Bulldog Tournament 11/5/2016

The Dunbar Academic Team will be hosting a tournament for middle school teams (grades 6-8) as well as JV high school teams (grades 9-10) on November 5, 2016. Registration will begin at 8:15 AM, the team meeting for the tournament will begin at 8:40, and tournament play will begin at 9:00. Thirushan Wignakumar will be acting as tournament director.

The cost for the tournament is $60 per team. You can pay on the day of the tournament or send it in beforehand to: PL Dunbar High School, 1600 Man O’ War Blvd, Lexington, KY 40513. Please make all checks payable to Paul Laurence Dunbar Attn: Academic Team.

Lunch will be available at Dunbar for just $5 per person. This includes two slices of pizza, a cookie, and a drink.

We will be using NAQT 161A throughout the day. Worksheets will be house-written.

All teams will play five rounds round- robin style in the morning. Based off their morning performance, all teams will be re-bracketed and matched with teams with similar records.

South Laurel Middle School Invitational Tournament 11/19/2016

South Laurel Middle School Invitational Tournament

Where:  South Laurel Middle School, London, KY

When:  Saturday, November 19th

The tournament will consist of two divisions – an open division and a 6th grade division (6th graders who compete in the open division may NOT compete in the 6th grade division).

Governor’s Cup quick recall format will be used.  All teams will be guaranteed a minimum of 4 matches.

Cost:  $55 per school for the open division (each school may enter one or two teams in the open division); entry for the 6th grade division is $15 per team (one team per school)
